  • December 8, 2014 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Meet other club members at Whitlow's on Wilson in the Clarendon Community of Arlington from 7:00PM to 9:00PM to tie flies, watch fly fishing films, and consume food and drink. We will be in the Sandbar and Patio area of Whitlow's. Bring a vise and materials if you would like to, we will also have a table set up to teach beginners how to tie as well.   • May 30-June 1, 2014 (Saturday and Sunday) - Potomac Snakehead Tournament. TPFR is sponsoring the Potomac Snakehead Tournament again this year. Go out and fish for 24 hours, and come back to Flying Dog beer, Rappahanock Oysters and chef-prepared snakehead. Sign up in advance or at the event.

  • June 14, 2014 (Saturday) - Family and Youth Casting Call. The Family and Youth Casting Call, a fishing event for kids in Washington, DC, needs volunteers. We need at least 10 volunteers to reach our goal of becoming a silver level sponsor. Please sign up to volunteer or bring your kids to the event.

2011 Events

  • January 17, 2011 (Monday) - First ever TPFR "Beer Tie". About 50 club members met at the Ri-Ra Irish Pub in Clarendon to have a few pints of Guiness and tie flies. All flies tied were donated to the Northern Virginia Chapter of Coastal Conservation Association.
  • February 21, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Club members met at Ri-Ra to have a few brews and tie nearly 100 flies donated to the Greater Washington Chapter of Coastal Conservation Association.
  • March 5-6, 2011 (Saturday - Sunday) - The Fly Fishing Show at Philadelphia. Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders represented the FFF at the Philadelphia Fly Fishing Show. TPFR officers taught walk up fly casting and fly tying to all comers, and brought our brand of outreach to a whole new audience!
  • March 12, 2011 (Saturday) - National Capital Chapter of Trout Unlimited's Annual Angling Show.
  • March 14, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Club members met at Ri-Ra Irish Pub to tie and donate pink flies to Casting for Recovery.
  • April 1, 2011 (Friday) - Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders Spring Meeting held at Ri-Ra Irish Pub in Clarendon from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. We held raffles, had a blindfolded wooly bugger tying contest, and talked about our upcoming events.
  • April 14-16, 2011(Thursday - Saturday) - Jim Range National Casting Call and the Family & Youth Casting Call. Held at Fletcher's Boat House in Washington DC.
  • April 16-17 (Saturday - Sunday) - Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival in Waynesboro, Virginia. Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders had a tent at the show; we taught single- and two-handed fly casting techniques as well as fly tying to many new comers.
  • April 23, 2011 (Saturday) - First Annual Washington DC Spey Clave. Held at Fletcher's Boat House on the banks of the Potomac River from 9AM to 5PM. Come watch spey casting demos, try out new spey tackle and meet the two handed experts. Event is free of charge and lunch will be provided.
  • May 23, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Club members met at Ri-Ra Irish Pub to tie flies to support the Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders; flies were sold for a buck a piece and left over flies were given out through a raffle.
  • June 13, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Club members used their craft store supplies to tie flies. We raised nearly $200 for future events.
  • July 11, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Over 50 people gathered at RiRa to tie flies, raise pints and tell a few stories. Over $200 was raised for future events.
  • August 22, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. We had nearly 50 people tying and donating flies, including several kids under the age of 14 tying their first flies.
  • September 12, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie. Many club members gathered to tie countless flies. We even had our youngest beer tyer ever, at a month and half old.

  • November 14, 2011 (Monday) - Beer Tie.
  • December 12, 2011 (Monday) - Holiday Party & Beer Tie.

2010 Events

  • April 17-18, 2010 (Friday - Saturday) Virginia Fly Fishing Festival -TPFR raised the funds to be a Bronze Level Sponsor of the 2010 Virginia Fly Fishing Festival in Waynesboro, VA. We had our own 20'X30' tent where we held free kids fly tying lessons around the clock, sold a few flies,and handed out information about the FFF and TPFR to all who were interested. FFF President Phil Greenlee joined us for both days. We also made a bit of history by conducting four Spey Casting Demos and walk up Spey lessons on the South River, bringing Spey Casting to the Festival for the first time ever! We will do it again in 2011, only bigger and better!
  • April 23, 2010 (Friday) Family Tyes Fishing Day - TPFR helped to create and host a "Special Kids Fishing Day" during the 2010 Jim Range National Casting Call. More pictures here. Of course, we also helped out with the Casting Call and Family Youth Casting Call as well. This is an annual event, it takes place right here on our River, and TPFR will be a partner indefinitely.   • May 26, 2010 (Wednesday) Nation's River Bass Tournament - TPFR brought Fly Fishing to the Nation's River Bass Tournament for the first time EVER! Many of us got started in this sport simply because we saw someone else doing it and thought it looked cool. With our participation in this event, many kids not only got to see it for the first time, they got to give it a try themselves!
  • July 18, 2010 (Sunday) - Spey Day at Fletcher's Boat House in DC from 8AM-Noon

  • September 11, 2010 (Saturday) - Frankenfish Fry and Spey Day. Angler's gathered in the morning at Fletcher's Boat House to try casting with two handed rods and watch Dan Davala and John Bilotta put on a short demonstration. Around noon, John Odenkirk from Virginia Game and Fish showed up with Snakeheads (Channa argus) for us to grill and fry.
